Outdoor Living 300x200Warm weather means it’s propane season.

As the days get longer, we tend to spend more time outside on the deck, enjoying the grill, outdoor kitchen, fire pit, pool, hot tub, and patio heaters – all of which can be utilize propane.

To make the most out of your time outside this summer, keep these propane tips in mind:

  1. Store it safely: Keep propane cylinders stored outdoors in an upright position. Never place them on their side or in the house or garage.
  2. Don’t let it leak: Every time you replace a propane tank, use a soapy water solution to check for leaks at connection points. If you see bubbles, there is a leak. Turn off the valve (clockwise) if you smell gas. Have it checked by a technician to ensure its safety before using it.
  3. Relight the right way: Sometimes the flame doesn’t light up right away after you’ve turned on the propane. Turn off the gas, wait at least 15 minutes and try again.
  4. Cut your lawn costs: Part of enjoying the outdoors in the summer is enjoying your beautiful lawn. Consider a propane lawnmower for considerable fuel savings. Propane mowers typically cost about 30% less to operate than a gasoline model.
  5. Take the kitchen outside: More and more people are discovering the joys of an outdoor kitchen. You can use propane to power appliances such as the grill and a refrigerator to put everything you need within arm’s reach.
